Xray Technician Career

X-ray Technician Career

A long time ago, training for an x-ray technician career may not have been the wisest career choice. X-ray technology has been around for a while, but in its early stages, people didn't really know that the small amount of radiation used to see a person's skeleton could actually cause disease. Overexposure to x-ray radiation can cause cancer. Those most susceptible to overexposure were x-ray technicians who constantly administered x-rays to people while sitting in the same room.

Fortunately, as the medical community began to understand the negative long-term effects of x-ray exposure, new procedures were set up to protect x-ray technicians and their patients. Protective material was put over patients to mitigate the effects of radiation, X-ray machines were regularly tested to make sure their radiation emissions were within an acceptable range, and x-ray technicians started administering x-rays from separate rooms.

Today, seeking an x-ray technician career is by no means a dangerous proposition. In fact, x-ray technicians can make a great living. The work, once the proper skills are learned, isn't terribly demanding, but it pays pretty well because of the radiation risks involved.

If you want an x-ray technician career, you'll have to spend some time in training. X-ray technicians can become certified by taking a number of different certification courses, or earning an occupational or associated degree in the field. Many community college and vocational schools offer the courses necessary for certification.
